I’m still hoping to have the ability to fully customize my template. I hope the WP guys enable it sometime in the future.

Librarians are supposed to be avid readers. Being the knowledge master that they are, where else can librarians find the knowledge but in books and other reading materials, be it printed or non-printed. As the old library adage says, “so many books, so little time”.

Indeed there are a vast of information wealth one can find almost anywhere. And money to purchase most of those is no longer an issue. This wealth has enabled continuing learning an ease to anyone seeking knowledge and professional advancement. Unfortunately, not everyone has the luxury of time or the discipline to allot time for reading, be it for professional or leisure purpose. But in my case, the lack of time and discipline for both reading purposes applies. And I could only wish for time and discipline to finish reading and learning about the following stuff relating to the field of library and information science:

Library 2.0 ( re: wikis, blogs, rss aggregators, social bookmarking)

Open Source Applications (as it applies to libraries)

Metadata (applications in libraries)

Digital issues in libraries

Now, If only a genie could grant my wish?

If you can’t find the CIP (cataloging-in-publication) data of a published book from the Library of Congress Union Catalog, chances are you’d find it at the British Library.

Fast forward to 2005, Google despite receiving several flaks from American Association of Publishers and Author’s Guild continues with its Google Print project and posted the first part of its digitization project covering books which are already included in the public domain or in simple terms, books which are no longer covered by copyright laws.

Recently, in a BBC article, Microsoft announces its plan of digitizing 100,00 books in the British Library collection and will make them available to public.

Will these two corporate giants able to do what the field of librarianship failed to do? That is make information available to user at the right place and at the right time? That remains to be seen in the coming days.

It seems like I won’t be updating this blog for this week. I am currently attending a training on OHSAS 18001 for being one of our company’s internal auditors. OHSAS (Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series) 18001 is part of our company’s contribution to making our organization socially responsible. It has been quite awhile since I attended a training this long. Today is our first day and I can’t believe I managed to survive the exercises, the discussions and the lectures during the training. I hope I can make it until Friday, when we will have an examination in order to be certified as Lead Auditor for OHSAS 18001.

Ok. I finally got my golden WordPress ticket. What now? Having used two WordPress MU enabled free site, Blogsome and Edublogs, I guess I could say the features are pretty much the same. But then, this is WordPress.com man, so it pretty adds a little esteem to a blog.

Lohrelle sums up what every privilege blogger can do with this “god-given” account here in WordPress.com and I couldn’t agree more. While for Blogger users, this is an interesting comparison between WordPress.com and Blogger.

Now, since I have been using blogsome for quiet some time now I could say that feature wise, WordPress.com is pretty much the same as that of blogsome’s WPMU. Except for one difference which I hope will be addressed soon, and that is the ability to tweak or customize one’s template. If this issue is answered, I bet in due time, WordPress.com would be on its way to becoming the leading WordPress blog host.
